Andrey V. Tyukhtin received his degrees in physics from the St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU): M.S. degree in 1982, Candidate of Science (Ph.D.) degree in 1985, and degree of Doctor of Science in 2000. He has held several positions in SPbSU since 1982. He is currently (since 2001) a professor and a head of the Laboratory of Electrodynamics of Nonstationary and Microwave Processes of the Radiophysics Department of SPbSU. He lecture the following courses created by him: Theory of Wave Processes, Processes of Radiation in Electrodynamics, Foundations of Electrodynamics of Moving Media. He has guided scientific work of students and post-graduate students. As well, he has created some plans of teaching at Physical Faculty of SPbSU. A.V. Tyukhtin is a deputy of the head of the Radiophysics Department of SPbSU, a member of Academic Council in the area of Radiophysics (SPbSU), and a member of Academic Council of Physical Faculty.

His main research activities have included:

  • Radiation and scattering of electromagnetic waves in moving media in the presence of planar objects (conductive screen, half-plane, slot in the screen, system of parallel conductors);
  • Theory of radiation of moving charged particles and other moving sources (Vavilov-Cherenkov radiation, transition radiation, radiation of moving oscillators) in dispersive, active, anisotropic and left-handed media including metamaterials;
  • New methods of acceleration and diagnostics of charged particles beams
  • Diffraction theory
  • Theory of waveguide structures containing dispersive media
  • Electrodynamics of periodic structures.

A.V. Tyukhtin has been awarded with grants from the Russian Foundation of Basic Research and the Russian Centrum of Fundamental Natural Science, as well the first prize from the Academic Council of Physical Faculty of SPbSU. He has published more than 80 scientific works and participated at the series of leading conferences in physics of accelerators and electromagnetic processes (EUROEM-2004, AAC-2006, PAC-2007, EPAC-2008, and others). At present time, the researches oriented to applications in the area of new methods of particles acceleration and diagnostics of beams are realized in collaboration with experts of the company EuclidTechLabs (USA) and the Argonne National Laboratory (USA).
