Since 1985, he worked as a research scientist at St. Petersburg Electrical Engineering University, where he specialized in the field of accelerator physics. He defended his Ph. D. (physics) in 1993. His thesis was devoted to self-consistent problems of Cherenkov radiation of relativistic electron beams in linear dielectric wake-field accelerators. Since 1999, he has been working in the field of mobile communications, with a leading European mobile middleware vendor First Hop Ltd. His research interests were in the areas of mobile authorisation and traffic optimisation in 2G mobile networks.

In 2004 he established Dynamics Software, a company that primarily specializes in scientific computing.
